Alliance/AFT was well represented with the largest delegation of 24 delegates!
Our 2023 state convention was held in McAllen, Texas on June 23rd-24th. It was hosted by the McAllen AFT, Edinburg AFT, and La Joya AFT locals who welcomed us with open arms. They sponsored a very nice reception the first evening with great food, drinks, and music. Texas AFT also celebrated its’ 50th Year Anniversary!
At the Pride of the Union Awards Luncheon, Alliance received three awards: Committee on Political Education Total Member Contributions – 3rd Place; Committee on Political Education Total Dollars – 2nd Place; and Membership Total Density Award for Support Professionals – 3rd Place. We were proud to be recognized for these accomplishments which you helped make happen. Other happenings included our state president, Zeph Capo, and state secretary-treasurer, Ray McMurrey, being re-elected to serve another two-year term. Three resolutions submitted by Alliance/AFT (authored by member Stuart Becker) were all passed. We met new brothers and sisters from other locals around the state and conducted the business of our Texas AFT. It was a wonderful learning experience for many that had never attended our conventions. We’re looking forward to our national AFT convention next summer being held in Houston, Texas.
