The AFT national union, Texas AFT, and its local unions in Harris County are joining our extended labor family to offer a free citizenship clinic in Houston this summer to support lawful permanent residents who wish to apply for U.S. citizenship.
The pathway to citizenship can be confusing and difficult. With our partners at the Texas AFL-CIO and many community organizations, we want to help aspiring citizens navigate the process. These free citizenship clinics provide valuable information and help applicants:
- Fill out the N-400 Citizenship Application
- Individual citizenship consultation with immigration lawyers
- Study materials for citizenship exam
Labor and community partners at one of the first two pre-screenings for the July 21 citizenship clinic.
To attend the July 21 citizenship clinic, you must attend one of two remaining pre-screening events on June 14 and June 15. Pre-screenings ensure that you’re eligible to apply for citizenship and that you have met all your requirements. Additionally, there are several documents you must bring to the pre-screening:
- your permanent resident card
- driver’s license, passport, or Texas state ID
- Social Security card
- marriage certificate(s), if applicable
- divorce decree(s), if applicable
- Criminal history record(s), if applicable
- List of employers and addresses for the past five years

If you’re unable to attend the pre-screenings and citizenship clinic, NALEO Educational Fund operates a toll-free bilingual Spanish and English national hotline (1-888-839-8682) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, to provide assistance and answer questions about the naturalization process and provide resources.
