Local Support: With more than 30 local unions and an Associate Membership Program with more local offices than any other Texas organization, we are on the ground with you.
State Advocacy: If we want to keep teachers and staff in our public schools, it’s time for the Legislature to fully fund our schools so they can thrive. Our team is at the Capitol to make them listen.
National Backing: Texas AFT and its local unions stand alongside 1.7 million AFT members across the country. Our affiliation with the AFL-CIO means the backing of working people nationwide.
Our Members
Pre-K-12
Texas AFT works to better the profession of educators by promoting effective public education policy to improve the pay and working conditions of teachers, nurses, counselors, and other professionals.
Higher Education
Our union also represents higher education employees at community colleges and universities. We have merged with AAUP and are actively organizing higher ed local unions around the state.
Support Professionals
Support personnel — from bus drivers to cafeteria workers to custodians — keep our schools running. Texas AFT aims to represent their varied interests on the local and state levels.
