Texas AFT represents all non-administrative certified and classified public school employees in traditional public schools. Our union also accepts employees in universities, colleges, and community colleges as members.
Our priorities reflect the interests of teachers, counselors, librarians, diagnosticians, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, nurses, teaching assistants, clerical employees, and the other employees who make our schools work.
Texas AFT also accepts charter school educators as members, with some changes to benefits. Give us a call at 1-800-222-3827 for more information.
Pre-K12 Educators
We work to better the professional lives of educators by advocating for pro-public education policy and laws; ensuring educators understand their rights and responsibilities; and providing ongoing professional development opportunities.
Support Professionals
School support personnel — from paraprofessionals to cafeteria workers to bus drivers — make our public schools run. They are valuable employees and should be treated as such. All non-administrative school staff are invited to join our union.
Higher Education
Our union doesn’t focus on K-12 exclusively. We are building power in higher ed, too with several local unions, even more at-large members, and a partnership with the American Association of University Professors.
Retirees
Your experience in public education doesn’t end when you retire, and neither should your advocacy power. Our Retiree Plus program is open to any retired school employee and focuses on lobbying at the state level.
